We’re Brownhills Musical Theatre Company (BMTC), a community group that puts on fantastic shows and brings local talent to the stage. We take your privacy seriously – whether you’re a valued member of the group or someone who wants to hear about our next production.

What information we collect
1. Our members
If you’re involved in a BMTC production (onstage, backstage, or committee), we may collect:
- Name, address, phone number, email
- Emergency contact details
- Age or date of birth (especially for safeguarding)
- Medical or access needs (if you choose to share them)
- Membership status and fees paid
- DBS check confirmation (where needed)
We store this securely and only collect what’s necessary to keep everyone safe, organised, and in the loop.
2. Mailing list subscribers
If you sign up to hear about our shows, we’ll collect:
- Your name (optional)
- Your email address
- How you found us (e.g. via the website, a show, or a friend)
We don’t send spam, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
3. Website visitors
If you browse our website, we may collect anonymised info like:
- Page visits
- Where visitors come from (e.g. Facebook, search engines)
- Cookie preferences
We use Google Analytics (with IP anonymisation enabled) to help us improve our promotions. You’ll be asked for consent before we use any non-essential cookies.
Why we collect your data
We only use your data for legitimate purposes, such as:
- Managing our cast, crew and committee
- Communicating show details, rehearsal schedules or events
- Keeping people safe (e.g. knowing emergency contacts or allergies)
- Sending news, show announcements and fundraising campaigns
- Complying with legal obligations (e.g. safeguarding, insurance)
Legal basis
We process your data under:
- Consent – for mailing list sign-ups and cookies
- Legitimate interest – to run the group effectively and promote our shows

How we store your data
We store your data securely, either:
- In password-protected documents
- Locked filing cabinets (member data only)
- In reputable services (like Mailchimp, Google Workspace) with UK/EU data protection standards
We do not sell your data. Only trusted committee members have access, and only for their specific roles (e.g. Treasurer, Secretary).
How long we keep it
- Members: We’ll keep your details while you’re active with BMTC, and up to 1 year after (unless you ask us to remove them sooner).
- Mailing list: Until you unsubscribe.
- Medical info: Deleted after the show or season it relates to.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- See what data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate details
- Delete your data (unless we’re legally required to keep it)
- Stop using your data for certain purposes
